Zesty Avocado Cucumber Salad

Hello loves, and happy summer! We are in full on summer, officially anyway, and the foods that we need start to shift to help with the heat and humidity that makes summer, summer. I created this salad months ago when it started to warm up and am now addicted to it. When I say this is my new face summer salad…well THIS is my new summer salad! It is zesty, refreshing, and it just tastes good.

What Ya Need

2 Avocados Large Ripe Rough Chopped

1 Cucumber sliced in rounds (not too thick, but can slice as thin liked)

1/2 red onion sliced thinly in rounds

Dressing:

1/4 cup Lemon Juice

1/2 cup avocado oil

2-3 TBS fresh chopped dill

2-3 cloves minced garlic (depends how garlicky you want it to be)

Salt and Pepper to taste (you want to be heavy on the salt because the cucumbers will release water while sitting)

What Ya Do

  • Add the lemon juice, dill (start with small amount and increase based on taste needs), and garlic, to a small glass bowl.
  • Using a wire whisk add in the avocado oil and whisk to emulsify the oil with the lemon juice.
  • Season with salt and pepper heavily as the cucumbers will release additional water so you want to be sure that the dressing will not be diluted down.
  • Taste dressing for a slight saltiness and if it is zesty enough.
  • In another bowl add the cucumbers and red onion, toss to combine.
  • Add in the cubed ripe avocado and add some of the dressing.
  • Toss to combine adding more of the dressing as needed.
  • For the best flavor impact let sit in the fridge for at least 4 hours or even overnight. The onions and cucumbers will become translucent.
  • Taste before serving to see if additional salt and pepper are needed.
  • Enjoy this refreshing salad.

Let’s Get Handsy

Love, a question for you here…when is the last time you pampered and said thank you to your hands? I know, its ok…we can change that today! With a few steps, your hands can be shown some love, care, and appreciation for all that they do and touch!

Did you know that the skin on your hands is thicker than on any other part of your body? It’s thicker because your hands are used in so many ways daily that require that added layer of protection by way of the skin. Those daily tasks can stress and strain your hands, which is why it is so important to show them some love and appreciation in all that they do.

Exfoliate

One of the simplest and rewarding ways to show your hands some love is…EXFOLIATION! Exfoliation helps stimulate the blood flow, removes dead skin buildup, and gives you the opportunity to get some self love time in with yourself. I recommend that this simple process be done at least once a week making sure you follow up with a hydrating body or hand cream making sure to massage it into all areas of the hands making sure not to forget the nail area, so don’t forget those cuticles.

Hydrate

Moisturizing your hands is a crucial act needed for optimal hand health. That why it is important to add back in the hydration that it looses through those many daily tasks that we do every second of the day. Our hands can dry out quickly because of the amount of motion and action that they are engaged in. This action requires an added level of care and attention. For myself, after I wash my hands I make sure that I am using a hydrating hand cream and massage it into my hands, which also helps with circulation a bit. I also use a body butter on my hands at night before I go to bed for an added boost of repair and hydration while I sleep.

What Ya Need

There is no need spend a lot of money on a scrub if you have the following ingredients in your kitchen. Sugar in the raw, the only reason that I keep it in stock is for body care treatments, and coconut oil, is always on hand because it does so much in and out of the kitchen. Added bonus ingredients is cinnamon, lemon juice, or essential oils of choice.

1/4 cup Sugar

1/2 cup Coconut Oil

Hydrating Hand Lotion or Body Butter

Select One Option Below:

1 tsp Cinnamon

1 Lemon Zested and Juiced

10-20 drops Essential

What Ya Do

  • Mix all ingredients together in a glass container, and store in a glass jar with a lid.
  • Allow to set up in the fridge for about an hour.
  • Once setup using a table spoon, spoon out a spoon full into the palm of your hand.
  • Using your hands massage the scrub gently over all areas of your hands. I suggest doing this over a sink so it catches any fall out.
  • Do this motion for about a minute, being sure that you are gentle in pressure.
  • Rinse off using cool water.
  • Apply hand lotion or body butter to your hands massaging the lotion into your hands.

While doing the massaging motions I like to say thank you to my hands for all that they do, and how much I appreciate them for that. Mindful appreciation is important to do, honoring the amazing parts of our body that carry us around each and every day.

Exercise

Another important hand care is to stretch them out, to release some of the tension and heal some of the abuse caused through out daily lives. As an esthetician, I use my hands as part of my practice so I have a routine that I go through to release and relax my hands from the daily use that I can put them through. It is imperative that I do my hand exercises as they are my main tools. A useful guide that I found is something that any everyone should be doing daily, if not several times a day. Hands are one of the top neglected parts of the body, that fall into skin care category. I care deeply about hand health and know the importance of care and treatment, through my own daily practice needs. We use them every second of the day on some capacity. It is up to us to be sure that we are taking care of them and showing them much needed love!

Heart Touchy

Hi loves! I was asked about the types of people that warm my heart. Thinking about that question really made me feel the need to highlight these amazing human beings and make me want to champion for their existence in this world.  They have an amazing heart space that deserves to be honored for giving the world more love, kindness and compassion.  A WIN in my book!

#1 Altruistic Champions

I am always amazed at those people who live their lives, I mean their whole existence, focused on helping others.  The ability to make yourself the focus of how you can help someone else.  It is not about them and never will be except the thought of how can I help others that are in need of something for a better quality life.  They understand the impact championing for other people can have and the domino affect that has on the world around us all.  When you exist better, you do better and you are able to give in return to help someone else.       

#2 Open-minded Audacity

To be bold enough to be open to the thoughts outside of your own reality and life experiences.  This quality is something that the world could benefit from with more people like this.  It is an ideal that is based on existing and operating in a place of love, of being able to consider other opinions, thoughts, and lifestyles that are so different from what you may know or can even comprehend.  To be humble enough to not allow your mind to keep you from considering other peoples existence here as not worthy or purposeful because it it is outside of who you are.  

#3 Unapologetic Uniqueness

I love to see my fellow unicorns out there that are okay with dancing to the beat of their own drum with not one care if others can hear the music that they are dancing to in order to understand why you are moving at that rhythm, beat and timing.  You give no cares about others and their understanding of how and why you are the way you are.  You love the way that they were designed to be and by doing so you unknowingly encourage others to embrace themselves as well.  

#4 Not Taking Self Seriously

When you are able to exist from a place of not taking yourself seriously, you have my heart!  Not one single person is so important that they are more valuable than the other.  When you are in a heart space of not taking things seriously you are more open to not taking every life moment as an end all and be all.  You realize that perfection does not exist and do not seek to obtain the unobtainable.  You are better equipped to handle those bumps along the road with grace and humor not allowing it to take you out of the game because you realize that it could be worse and focus on what you can do about it without allowing it to consume you.  Not one person is perfection and for those that know it and able to laugh at their short falls without taking it seriously, I see you and love it.  

#5 Passionately Life Living

We all have seen people who have an unwavering zeal for experiencing the many things that they can within their life, or maybe this is who you are.  You aren’t afraid to try new things, or if you are embracing that, fear is the task at hand along the path towards achievement.  You truly live every moment as if it is the last moment on this earth.  Celebrating the small things in life right along with the big things, because every accomplishment is an achievement that deserves to be celebrated.  You are living your life on purpose and that becomes part of your book of life that you are writing each day on earth.

If you are one or a few of the above, you have won my heart.  My love and support is yours to have, as you are a person that encourages me to come from a place of being open, leading more with love.  You all are important to the world and the balance that is needed to provide solitude and peace to those in need.  You seek to challenge the conventional thoughts that we sometimes have that prevents us from seeing that there are realities outside of our little worlds.  Encouraging that there is nothing to be afraid of from others as long as they are coming from that loving heart space, they seek not to harm but to encourage more love.  There can never be too much love in the world, it is the only thing that can help soothe the pains and start the healing process from experiencing the moments of living life.

After Workout Skincare Must Haves
